Takami Kawai is the owner of ‘Suikoushya‘ – a design and construction firm, based in Kyoto. Takami is also the founder and principle teacher at ‘Suikoushya International Craft School‘, a growing enterprise offering students around the world the opportunity to learn Japanese woodwork.
Located in the Arashiyama area of Kyoto, Takami specializes in wooden architecture, from renovating traditional Kominkas to designing and constructing wooden buildings.
Through his Craft School, Takami also organises talks, events, and workshops relating to traditional Japanese carpentry, woodworking, and tools.


Biography
– Graduated an Architectural course from Kagoshima University
– Started working as a carpenter in the village of Miyama, Kyoto; a place known for its traditional thatched roofs.
– Participated in the 62nd Shikinen Sengu of the Ise Jingu Shrine
– Started ‘Suikoushya’, a design and construction firm in Arashiyama, Kyoto
